Congratulations on your Daily Deviation, you! However, I really think this one would have deserved it even more.. this is eyecandy to the maximum! As are the other two (one like this, and Infinite Possibilities)! I adore playing chess, and this looks wonderful.. just wonderful! Keep up the good work

Bryce 5? I'll be damned :D All i ever managed to squeeze out of there were some fishy landscapes :D Hehe. I'm trying to get into LightWave myself. I still have a long way to go tho :)

lol! I also use Cinema4D a little, but Bryce is my main one at this point... The pieces are a combination of metaballs and regular shapes - the knights' heads are from a 3D model I got elsewhere. Here's the original one I did with this setup a while ago : [link] ... and there's one with glass pieces rendering now :D

Bet it took a while to compose yes? Last experiment i did with metaballs in lightwave took me about an hour (+another 30 minutes to render) and it came out crap :D hehe

Yes, metaballs can be render-intensive in Bryce as well, and it took a while to get the pieces right... since they're all Staunton style I was able to reuse the base, which helped a lot lol. I'm not sure how long it took to make in all -- I did a pawn first as an experiment and then made the rest, including a few failed attempts to make a horsehead myself with metaballs lol. It probably took a few hours overall to get them all right.

Fabulous! I love both of these chess walls, but this one better. Love the deep colors and the almost alive quality of the material the pieces are made out of.
